José Christopherson (1914 – 2015) was born in Barton-on-Irwell in 1914. She studied at Manchester College of Art and Design and in London, most notably with Iain Macnab at the Grosvenor School of Modern Art.

Christopherson was heavily involved with the Mid-Day studios and was a good friend of Lowry and other leading post-war Manchester artists. She was much influenced by Marc Chagall and Christopher Wood. Christopherson appeared in group exhibitions put on by Lucy Wetheim and exhibited with the Manchester Group. The circus and the landscape were leading features of her pictures. She married the artist and industrialist Richard Weisbrod, and the two of them moved to Switzerland.

Christopherson lived latterly in Vaud, Switzerland where she died in 2015.
