About Richard Weisbrod

Enquire / Make an Offer

Richard Weisbrod was a central and key figure in the emerging Manchester art scene of the post war years. Born into a wealthy and long established silk manufacturing family, Weisbrod had an elegant and imposing physical presence, yet moved seamlessly amongst the artists, gallerists and public both in the Northern and Southern marketplace. He close friendship and association with Margo Ingham, Lowry, Theo Major, Ned Owens and Andras Kalman ensured that he secured access to and acceptance by both the inner sanctum of the ‘alternative’ Manchester art scene, as well as the burgeoning demand for ‘Northern’ art of the period in the London galleries. Weisbrod had exhibitions at the Mid-day Studios, the Crane Gallery, Krane Kalman, and the Leger Gallery. His second wife was the artist Jose Christopherson.
