Sold this today. The 16th of the 17 works that were illustrated in ‘A Northern School Revisited’ that we had been involved in at some point. And one of the best. Jake Attree’s ‘City Centre’ measures 122cm X 168cm without a frame and no photograph will ever do it justice. I loathe it when gallerists use the phrase ‘museum piece’ as much as TV commentators talking about certain football players as being ‘world class’ but Jake’s expressionist 1993 snapshot of the smell, colour and vibrancy of the northern city is akin to Kossoff and Auerbach’s zeitgeist snapshots of London. I’ve had Freud, Kossoff, Warhol and Miro on these walls and this painting stands shoulder to shoulder with the best of them.
