I was asked yesterday how many Jake Attee paintings I’ve sold over the last 5 or 6 years, and realised I couldn’t even begin to guess. So I trawled through the databases and counted them. 164 is the answer. And shortly, I’ll be delivering the latest one sold – which I consider to be amongst the best 5 of them all. Occasionally it’s hard to see one go: it has been in my hallway brightening my homecomings for a while. ‘Central Park – Evening Light’ from 2016. With only a large handful of Jake’s paintings left, and no likelihood of getting any more, it’s been a great run and I wish him well with Messum’s. My favourite? It’s still an earlier one from the 1990’s: ‘New York Taxis’. Strange that, for a quintessentially English rural landscape artist, two of my personal favourites were New York urban scenes.
