Just in from the framer. Peter Crabtree: ‘Landscape with Melting Snow’ (1970). The more I see of Crabtree’s work the more I appreciate the respect his peers have for him. His use of vibrant colour is unique. Crabtree studied at Leeds College of Art and the Royal College of Art in London where he won a Rome scholarship which enabled him to paint in the South of France and Paris for a year, and had solo exhibitions first with the Crane Gallery in Manchester and subsequently with Crane Kalman in London in 1960. He exhibited with Lowry, Lowndes, Fell, Bradsaw and Bryan Senior in 1961 in the seminal ‘Mood of the North’ exhibition in the Brompton Road Gallery, receiving excellent critical acclaim. As usual existing clients will take precedence and priority – please e mail us if interested. Works are now being cleaned and framed but herewith a small sample from across his career. Some stunning works clearly influenced by Munch and other Symbolists, Cezanne, Impressionism, and Fauvism, and deploying a unique treatment of colour, both his still life work and landscapes carry a vibrancy and poignancy that establish a singular and distinctive style.
