Delighted to announce that these two works by Partou Zia (1958-2008) have been acquired by the Arts Council of England. Born in Tehran, Zia arrived in England in 1970 and moved with husband and artist Richard Cook to Newlyn in 1993, where she remained until her untimely death in 2008, aged 49. Zia studied at The Slade, and in 2003 was the first recipient of the Tate St Ives residency at Porthmeor Studios, and went on to hold a solo Exhibition ‘Entering the Visionary Zone’ at Tate St Ives in 2007 – the year before she died. Her paintings are preoccupied with self-discovery, and the realms of personal dreams, motifs and memories. These two are entitled ‘Fenced Horizons’ and ‘Green Breath’.
