Having been taught by Leon Kossoff at St Martins, Kossoff invited Richard Cook to share a studio, which they did for over 3 years. Whilst reluctant to talk about the relationship, Cook here offers a glimpse into the intensity of their dynamic. Richard once told me how it ended: he completed his painting of the Royal Free Hospital under construction and Kossoff walked in to the studio, looked at the painting (see website) and said “you have to leave now – there’s only room in this studio for one genius.” And so it ended.
